WHAT MERCHANTS SAY

My customers have a loyalty code AND a seasonal discount code and Shopify will only let them use one. I get support emails every sale period about this.

THE PROBLEM
Shopify's one-discount-code limit creates friction that costs you sales

Shopify's default checkout allows exactly one discount code per order. This is one of the platform's most complained-about limitations, and it creates real problems for merchants running multi-programme discount strategies.

The scenarios where the single-code limit causes friction: a customer with a loyalty rewards code wants to also use your Republic Day sale code. A customer received a referral code from a friend and also has a seasonal promotion code from your email campaign. A wholesale customer has a trade discount code and wants to apply your launch discount on a new product. In every case, Shopify forces them to choose — and some choose not to buy rather than leave value on the table.

The one-code limit also affects your marketing effectiveness. Loyalty programmes become less engaging when customers discover their earned codes cannot be combined with promotional codes. Referral programmes underperform when referred customers cannot combine their welcome discount with active promotions. Email campaign codes generate fewer conversions when existing customers with loyalty codes must choose between the two.

Shopify Plus includes a "Shopify Scripts" feature that can implement discount stacking with custom code — but Plus starts at $2,300/month. Custom development of discount stacking logic on standard plans runs ₹1.5–3 lakh and requires maintenance. Discount Stack solves the problem at $12.99/year.

THE SOLUTION
Multi-code checkout without Shopify Plus or custom development

Discount Stack adds multi-code support to the Shopify checkout. After a customer enters their first discount code, an "Add another discount" option appears. They can stack codes up to your configured limit (default: 5 codes per order).

The stacking is not unlimited — you control the rules. Define which code types can stack together: loyalty codes can stack with seasonal and referral codes, but two percentage-off codes cannot stack together. Set a maximum combined discount percentage per order to protect margins. Exclude specific products or collections from stacking if needed.

These rules prevent discount abuse (customers stacking 5 sale codes for a 90% discount) while enabling the legitimate multi-programme stacking that your customers actually want. The configuration takes 10 minutes and works with all your existing Shopify discount codes immediately.

FEATURES
Flexible multi-code stacking with margin protection
Stack up to 5 codes per order
Customers can apply multiple discount codes at checkout. Default limit is 5 codes per order — configurable to 2, 3, 4 or 5 based on your programme structure. The checkout clearly shows each applied code and its discount amount.
Code compatibility rules
Define which discount types can stack together. Loyalty + referral: allow. Seasonal + loyalty: allow. Two percentage-off codes: block. Two flat-discount codes: block. Your rules, your control — no unexpected discount combinations that hurt margin.
Maximum discount cap
Set a maximum combined discount percentage per order — for example, 40% total maximum regardless of how many codes are stacked. Prevents edge cases where legitimate code combinations produce an unintended deep discount on a single order.
Works with automatic discounts
Compatible with Shopify's automatic discounts. Customers with an automatic discount applied (for example, a 10% loyalty tier discount applied via customer tag) can still add manual codes on top, subject to your stacking rules. Discount Stack calculates the combined discount correctly and shows the breakdown at checkout.
COMMON QUESTIONS
Frequently asked
Does Shopify allow multiple discount codes natively?
No — Shopify only allows one discount code per checkout on all plans including Advanced. The only native multi-code solution is Shopify Plus via Shopify Scripts, which starts at $2,300/month. Discount Stack adds multi-code support to Basic, Shopify and Advanced plans at $12.99/year, without any platform upgrade or custom development.
Can I prevent customers from stacking two sale codes together?
Yes — Discount Stack's compatibility rules let you define exactly which code combinations are allowed. You can restrict codes by prefix, by discount type (percentage, fixed amount), or by code group. A common setup: codes starting with "LOYALTY" can stack with any other code, but two codes starting with "SALE" cannot stack together. This prevents the discount abuse cases while enabling the legitimate stacking your customers want.
Does Discount Stack work with Shopify's automatic discounts and customer tag pricing?
Yes — Discount Stack is compatible with Shopify automatic discounts and works alongside apps that apply pricing via customer tags. Customers who already have an automatic discount applied (tier-based pricing, automatic sale pricing) can add manual codes on top, subject to your stacking rules. The combined discount is calculated and displayed correctly in the order summary.

Let customers use all their discount codes. Increase loyalty programme ROI.
